JOE FREIHOFER - BILINGUAL HOST & REPORTER
2024 REEL
ABOUT
Joe is a bilingual storyteller with a Swiss-army-knife skillset and unique backstory that fuels his on-camera flavor. He is currently a Bilingual Host working for Atlanta United FC in Major League Soccer.
His love for sports journalism began through hosting a podcast live during his high school years at a local restaurant in his hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. He then enrolled at Michigan State to chase his passion and studied a double-major of journalism and Spanish while working in student television. He also made professional leaps working in local news covering high school sports for WILX-10, to soccer as a bilingual content producer in the top two divisions of America with FC Tulsa and Nashville SC. It was there that his true love was discovered: covering soccer and using the Spanish language as the link between both sets of growing audiences through his work.
After winning the 2021 Hearst Broadcast National Championship and becoming the #1 ranked "Sports Talent (Host/Reporter)" by the Broadcast Education Association for the class of '21, he moved to Barcelona, Spain to pursue a master's degree in Sports Journalism - taught in Spanish - at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra Barcelona School Of Management. There, he would cover FC Barcelona matches and news independently before interning as a Social Media Editor for Dorna Sports and MotoGP.
His work there also includes a documentary shot on Real Racing Club Santander - a founding member of LaLiga - and their climb back to historic heights in the relegation system of Spain.
His passion for the Spanish language and culture comes from living abroad in Santander, Spain in 2019 with the grandmother of Racing Santander icon, Ivan Bolado. Inspired by his experience in the Northern coastal city in Cantabria, he then dedicated himself to full immersion of the language, culture, and a fútbol-obsessed dream of being the bridge between both language groups in the U.S. to help grow the beautiful game into its true potential in America.
